Proxmox infrastructure with room to evolve.

Virtualisation, Linux and the foundations underneath application platforms. Open technology, with practical operating requirements.

Design the host layer deliberately

Proxmox VE provides a flexible foundation for virtual machines and containers. We start with the workloads, availability expectations and the physical environment. CPU, memory, storage and network decisions should follow those requirements, including realistic capacity for maintenance.

Connect virtualisation and Kubernetes

Virtualisation and container orchestration solve different problems. We use Proxmox as part of the infrastructure foundation and Talos for Kubernetes nodes where that separation suits the deployment. VM placement and storage dependencies need to be understood together.

Recovery is an operating capability

Backup schedules alone do not prove recoverability. We consider the data that needs protection, the recovery order and the credentials and dependencies needed during an incident. Restore validation and documented recovery steps belong in the operating plan.

Maintain a useful record

Network layout, host responsibilities and change history should remain understandable to the next operator. We favour documented configuration and controlled maintenance over unexplained manual changes. Monitoring helps identify capacity and health issues before planning the next change.
